ELK Studios is back with another release of cosmically inspired gravity mechanics, and Stars of Orion stands out from previous installments mainly in a positive way. The winning shapes have been replaced by a cluster payout engine, not unlike what is found in Cluster Slide.

Combine the above with a winning symbol collection meter that awards multiplier boosts and five different modifiers, and you’re into somewhat familiar grid slot territory. However, Super Symbols are a new innovation as they connect/upgrade cluster wins in surprisingly useful ways. This is especially true if you manage to trigger the Super version of the bonus round, and players can always purchase it directly from the X-iter feature’s purchase menu.

Stars of Orion slot features

Wild ‘W’ symbols can appear anywhere in view, and substitute for all regular paying symbols to help complete winning groups. Wild symbols are worth the same as the top-level ‘7’ symbol, and the 4 bonuses pay between 35 and 200 times your bet for more than 15 in a group.

All winning symbols are removed from the grid through the Avalanche feature, and this is how the Gravity mechanic comes into play. You will then see new and/or existing symbols fall into the spaces, leading to new winning groups. Therefore, the process repeats itself as long as you keep getting new winners.

All regular paying symbols can appear as Super Symbols, and then you will notice a bright blue frame around the symbol. When a Super Symbol is part of a winning group and connects to another winning group simultaneously, all winning symbols are transformed into the type of the highest value symbol that is part of the situation.

All winning symbols are collected in the magic meter seen on the right side, and prizes earn multipliers progressively from x2 to x4, x8, x16, x32 and x64. There are gemstones that activate random modifiers between the multiplier levels. You must fill the meter 2 times in a single Avalanche sequence to get both a multiplier and a feature, and you will reach the top.

The bonus round is activated when you get three bonus scatters anywhere in sight, which awards 10 free drops. The Magic Meter progress is not reset between free drops, and special Super Bonus Symbols can activate a Super version of the feature if all 3 scatters appear with a red frame. Summary of the review

Dropping ways to win for the Cluster Pays engine seems like a good choice for this type of setup, and we like the mysterious, cosmic atmosphere that hangs over this release.

Winning symbols to increase the win multiplier and get modifiers in custody are not uncommon in grid slots, and it’s quite fun when you engage in long-chain reaction runs. This doesn’t happen that often, of course, but anything can happen when the meter never resets in the slot bonus round. Super Symbols can effectively improve your winnings at times, and the solid 10,000x potential is double what’s offered in previous installments.
